Monday in Salzburg

Monday in Salzburg

We were at the boat dock in Hallstatt much too early and it was warm and we were already getting cranky. We talked to a lovely woman from Thailand. The boat was right on time and we zoomed across the lake to meet the train. The train was a few minutes late and we worried about meeting our connection since they are so exact. We found seats and stored our seemingly growing baggage. Of course the train made up the time and we had no trouble making our connection.
We arrived in the lovely Salzburg train station and found a taxi with no trouble. Since no traffic is allowed on our hotel street he pressed a special magic button that lowered a bar to let him drive us in.
We are staying at the Hotel Golden Crone 1512 on Linzergassa Street. We are on the 5th floor. There is an elevator.
We have a lovely modern bathroom and although the room is fine there is very little storage and we are here long enough that I would like to unpack.
We left to explore without our jackets. The really stupid thing is that we brought the day pack and did not load it with the jackets. We wanted lunch and we really were cranky, both of us, I don’t know why. We found a great out door café and after several tries got an English menu. Then the rains came. We were able to move inside. We both ordered eggs with ham but they were not green. The rain slowed down and we were off to find the TI. Our moods were better. We stopped and bought an umbrella that we will donate to the hotel when we leave. We found the TI after only asking directions twice. We bought tickets to a concert at the fortress for Thursday night. We will also spend some time visiting the Fortress. It sits at the top of the mountain and you can see it from everywhere. Once we take the funicular up we will still have to do 100 steps. Something to look forward to.
We also bought Salzburg Cards for free admission to everything and public transportation. We bought the one for 72 hours although we won’t have to activate it until Tuesday afternoon. We also bought tickets for the Sound of Music tour on the small bus. Stop laughing. You would be doing it too.
We returned to the hotel and tried to nap. That is where the bells came in.
Later we walked to the other side of the river for dinner. We ate at Saran essbar on Judengassa Street. What a find this was. We finally had fish. We ate two flights down in the vaulted cellar. The space was decorated with amazing art. Everything was perfect and not over priced. At the end of the meal we got really warm and were glad to get back outside.
We stopped for ice cream on the way home and I am glad to have that off my must do list.
Were home and thank goodness the last bells were at 9:45. We are right over a café and we could here people talking well into the night but I kind of liked it. That is until I was awakened by a drunk singing off key as he wandered up and down our street. I think this was around 2:00 am.
