My Christmas Miracle
Today I am having Nana’s fake Christmas although the name has been changed to Nana’s football Christmas because we will eat and open gifts to the lovely sounds of the Patriots game. I don’t know if I have ever mentioned how much I hate football. However the rest of my family thinks there is no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. So I have moved from a big sit down dinner to food we can eat in front of the TV and from Christmas music to the sounds of family cheers and moans.
Well, I woke up this morning and made my trip to the bathroom while still half asleep. I flushed and nothing happened. I woke up rather abruptly and flushed again, still nothing. I turned on the water, still nothing. Now, I have to admit, I was getting just a bit stressed. I had 9 people coming for dinner at noon and no water.
Neal called the water department and a water mane had broken during the night. We were told we should have water in less than two hours. It was about 7:00 am. This was too early to call my daughter and see if we could move things to her house. I really want to have NFC at my house; it is my event even with football.
We used some bottled water to make coffee and reheated last night’s pizza and found Miracle on 34th Street on TV. The good one from 1947. All things from 1947 are good.
The movie was on a station with commercials so it lasted even longer. I made a deal with Santa that I would not try the water again until the movie was over and if I waited patiently, the water would be back on.
I can’t tell you how hard it was but that is such a great movie, I made it until the end. Then Neal got up to turn on the water.
Of course we had water, there is a Santa Clause. Now, I wonder if he can make the Patriots win, or, like me, does he hate football?
