Today’s Gifts
One of the things I love best about my new life is doing outreach presentations for the Perkins Braille and Talking Book Library. Not only do I love to read but I love talking about reading. Along with either Jane or Rebecca who drive for me, and help keep me in line, I go to all sorts of facilities and groups that support people who could qualify for the book program. After years of selling wonderful solutions that cost a lot of money I get to give away the gift of reading.
Sometimes the presentations are wonderful and sometimes I feel a bit like a baby sitter. I am sure a lot of this depends on the amount of energy I bring into the room on the given day.
Today we went to Methuen Village in guess where? You guessed it, Methuen. We met with Kathleen who wanted to learn all about what we had to offer and what I knew about other services for her people as she lovingly called them. You can’t even imagine the energy Kathleen brings into a room. You could tell that all the staff worshiped her as they dropped by our presentation.
After we discussed the library services and some other options for her people, she brought us into the dining room for a spectacular lunch. As if this was not enough, we were presented with two bottles of spices and recipes.
The next time I need a nudge to get myself moving to make the needed cold calls to arrange presentations I will remember the gift of sharing this wonderful service and how it gives back to me in so many ways.
