Monday in Nashville
We walked to cracker barrel again. It just never quite stops raining.
Feels more like Florida than I expected.
Most of the rain is just like walking through floating drops.
I think tomorrow we are getting real rain but then cool clear weather for a couple of days at the end of the week.
We drove down town and started our day with a visit to the library. This lovely new building houses a Civil Rights exhibit that is pretty special. It seemed especially meaningful after visiting the battle site yesterday for the battle of Franklin.
We walked around the more business side of the downtown around the capital and found another Puckett’s for lunch. I had the same salad but with the briscut. It was good but seemed heavier than the pulled pork from the day before.
We walked around capital plaza and then back down to Broadway. It seemed like most of the day was a steep uphill walk and we were getting exhausted. I think I ate too much and the lack of sleep was catching up with me.
We went back home and signed up for a Red Neck comedy bus tour for Tuesday and took a nice nap.
Around seven we left again for the music scene. We now had read up on what clubs are the best. On Saturday night we noticed Tootsie’s but the line was way long so we passed it by. This is probably the most famous bar. It has a back door opening on to the alley by the Rhymes Theater so the entertainers could drink until the very last minute.
We scored the trifecta of best bars. We started with Robert’s Western World and heard a country western band that played great old songs and some they had written themselves. Song writing is as important here as quality showmanship.
We then went to Layla’s. This bar is well known for authentic Blue Grass music and the band was great.
Then we walked straight into Tootsie’s. There was a line but somehow we missed it. There were three floors of music. We stayed on the first floor with a great sort of party band.
I need to comment on the bathrooms in these bars. They must have been after thoughts because they are tiny and make no sense at all.
We walked back to our car and stopped at Nashville Palace on our way home for some food and more music. We are now calling this our place and they know us and are so nice.
We fell into bed at almost 2:00.
We are sure having fun.
