Not Just Ducky
I may have mentioned that we live on a lake. I also may have already talked about the ducks on our dock.
I have learned a few things about ducks. For example, they don’t bother taking care of their eggs until the ducks feel it is worth their time. A few times we have found a single egg just sitting on the end of the dock waiting for some animal to eat it. Honestly, we just toss the egg into the water to discourage the ducks from feeling too at home on the dock. It has been suggested that we try eating them. Also, it seems that ducks don’t mind using the same space for a bathroom as they do for a bedroom. We really don’t mind them sleeping on the dock but maybe they could take care of their business somewhere else.
Our dog seems to have decided that the ducks are welcome. Maybe it is that there are up to 20 of them and they are all bigger than he is.
He has barked at the heron that fishes at the end of the dock but once the heron turned and started walking towards him and Martin took off running for the house. Now the heron can fish all he wants to as long as the ducks approve.
We were in Maine over the week end and Neal and I were both napping. I got up and went upstairs to check my email and I heard chickens outside the window. The people next to us have chickens, so at first I did not think much of the noise. Eventually I went downstairs and noticed the noise was louder on the non chicken neighbor’s side of the house. I went out on the porch and the chickens were really loud. I don’t usually hear chickens up that close and personal. I woke Neal up and said I was hearing chickens. He said they were next door. I said that I did not think these chickens were next door. He finally got up and went out on the porch and there were three lovely chickens in our yard. Can you eat a chicken if it comes in your yard? Even if you can, that probably does not make you a good neighbor. They strolled off into our woods so we did not have to figure out weather or not to eat them.
Now, I think I am kind of done with birds. I feel a little like I am in an Alfred Hitchcock movie.
I guess the chickens were really too pretty to eat.
