Keep Reading June 2018
Yes, this is really the June list of books. The last June was really May. I am sorry about that.
The first book on my list for this month is: An American Marriage by Tayari Jones.
A newlywed couple is off to a great start when the young husband is arrested for a crime he did not commit. While in prison, his young wife leans on her best friend for help. Her husband is released early to find that she is more than friends with her previous best friend. They all have problems to solve.
My second favorite book is a nonfiction book called In The Shadow of Statues. Mitch Landrieu is the mayor of New Orleans. He decides that the statues to Civil War heroes need to come down. I have struggled with this subject. The author really help me to understand the problem with these statues. It is not just who they represent but where they are and why and when they were put up.
Hotel silence written by Auður A. Ólafsdóttir.
This book is translated from Icelandic.
A recently divorced man Travels to a war torn town and settles into a shabby hotel. He plans to kill himself. He can’t help fixing things and begins to put his life back together while doing the same for the hotel. This book will really grab your heart. We need books like this now and again.
I always need a good mystery. The Perfect Stranger filled this need for me and I’ll bet it will do the same for you.
Megan Miranda does give you some very subtle clues but they are easy to miss. Who is her roommate? Who is threatening her? Where can she be safe?
This is a great summer book. I read it on a plane and could not stop. The flight was not quite long enough.
