Our First 24 Hours in Chicago
Once again we thank our wonderful dog sitter for staying with Martin. We hope he gets to enjoy our new porch.
We left our house far too early in the morning but we knew we would get a good breakfast at our favorite airport restaurant.
The bus seemed extra nice and our seats were super comfy.
Once we were checked in it was time for Breakfast at Stephanie’s. Neal was upgraded and I was not but I had a bulk head seat and a good book.
I read Born on the Fourth of July from start to finish on the flight. What a great book.
We checked into the Double Tree Hotel in down town Chicago and got settled in.
We spent the afternoon and evening with family getting to see two stunning condos and having deep dish pizza with great conversation.
We were back early and glad to get to sleep.
We were up early and had breakfast in the hotel.
After breakfast we checked at the front desk for something to do with our morning. It was starting to rain.
We went to the Richard H. Driehaus Museum. I think this was a big surprise to both of us. I strongly recommend this to all Chicago visitors. A mansion from the late 19th century is literally covered from floor to ceiling, including the floor and ceiling with glorious decorative art of the period. Furniture both collected and original makes the rooms look like you were expected for a week end party.
We took a tour and the only other people on the tour were a family from Argentina who were headed to Boston from Chicago.
Next we met Mike at our hotel and went out for lunch and really got soaked walking home.
After a brief nap we are ready for our next adventure.
